How to get there
Teluk Chempedak is located 5km northeast of Kuantan. Affectionately known simply as “T.C.” by the locals, Teluk Chempedak is the closest beach attraction for the city of half-a-million dwellers. Hence, it is not uncommon to see the beach is filled with evening strollers, kite flyers, windsurfers and swimmers. On the left side of Teluk Cempedak beach, there is a long boardwalk (built over rocks and boulders) that connects to a second beach.
By air
From KL – Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport via Malaysia Airlines.
From Singapore – Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport via Firefly.
By bus
To Terminal Makmur ( Beside Stadium Darul Makmur) /from Kuala Lumpur ( Puduraya Bus Station): Kuantan is about 3hours from Kuala Lumpur by bus. Fares are currently around RM22.00
By car
Travel Time approximately 3 hours, distance approximately 250 km
- Directions:
Take the Karak Highway on to East Coast Expressway which connects Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur. You may exit at either the Gambang or Kuantan exit. Both expressways are toll roads and toll cost for the entire journey would be approximately around RM27.60 for a car.
- Alternatively :
For a more scenic route the Federal Route 2 also links Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan. This a national trunk road, however the journey could be somewhat slower than the expressway as there are traffic lights along the way and a lower speed limit. From Kuantan town, take the coastal road and follow the sign to Teluk Chempedak.This route is not toll’ed

From Kuantan town, drive along the coastal road following the signage and directions towards Teluk Chempedak.
Public transportation
No 39 bus from the local bus station in Kuantan, will take you to Teluk Chempedak
Fare : RM 0.60 sen
Taxi
Taxis in Kuantan are not metered, do enquire the cost and rates before getting into the taxi.

Places of Interest
The state of Pahang is home to the National Park ( Taman Negara ) , the country’s highlands and also some of the best islands and beaches with clear waters and white sand.
While in Kuantan, here are some suggested activities you could do. Stay on after the race and take in some fun sights and leisure activities.
Beaches
Teluk Chempedak, the venue for XTERRA Malaysia is beach for sailing, surfing, jet-skiing and sunbathing. Souvenir, handicraft and food outlets shops are all within walking distance.
Just off the beach you can jungle trek through the Forest Reserve onto Pelindung Beach you can also visit the Teruntum park which has a mini zoo for children and also for a spot of golf, there is the Royal Golf club round the corner.
Balok beach is also a great place to go to windsurf and is also known for its salted fish locally. It also houses a batik factory, a local and traditional cloth printing art and other cottage industries.
For surfing, windsurfing and jet skiing enthusiasts Cherating beach would be your best spot. Golden beaches and a rustic atmosphere, Cherating has everything from chalets to resorts to fulfill your accommodation needs. It is also the place you will find the only surf school in Malaysia. There are also many souvenir for handicraft and batik shops where you can try your hand at batik painting and also where you will find the Turtle Sanctuary and Information Centre.
There is also Chendor beach, 10 km from Cherating,a beautiful beach you may be lucky to spot green turtles and leatherback turtles laying eggs between July and September.
Ular Island ( Snake Island) is about 20 mins away by boat. A small rocky island it is a place of interest with its quaint fishing village and is a haven for fishing enthusiasts.
